These are my reviews of the ten books I read over the Summer. These were leisure books, and my criteria were what books were fun to read over a vacation, whether over Summer at the beach or Winter or Spring Break books. I am an avid book reader, and always have one in progress, whether for my book club, or just plain fun. This is a review of ten of them. I read them all over the Summer, so you could say these are the ten Summer reads, but really they are good for any season.
10. Gouda Friends – Cathy Yardley
This is a book about two high school friends who start a romance. This book is a sequel to one of my all-time favorite books Love Comment Subscribe. However, I was disappointed. I found the storyline boring. It was a bit slow. My biggest pet peeve in books is when the storyline is super slow. It is hard for me to get into a book without much action. I was so bummed after the Love Comment Subscribe with this one. I do not think I will be reading the next one. Here is the link to the book on Amazon (I DO NOT get a commission for any of the links here!): Gouda Friends.
9. Malibu Rising- Taylor Jenkins Reid
This book is about the events leading up to a huge party in Malibu for celebrities. I was really excited about this book as well. I loved Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo which is by the same author. However, this book was not as good. It was slow and the characters were hard to keep track of because there were so many. Here is the link to the book: Malibu Rising.
8.The People We Meet on Vacation- Emily Henry
This book was about two people who go on a yearly vacation together and start up a romance. It was a bit slow for most of the book. I kept waiting for the romance to start and it did not until the end. I liked the ending though. Here is the link to the book: The People We Meet on Vacation.
7. I Want to be Where the Normal People Are- Rachell Bloom
This is a book of short essays about Rachel Blooms life. Rachel Bloom is a famous actress and comedian. She wrote and starred in one of my favorite TV shows, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. I did like some of the stories in this book a lot. My favorites were about her love of musical theater. It was also supper funny. However, some of the stories were a bit boring. Here is the link to the book: I Want to be Where the Normal People Are
6. Maybe Someday- Colleen Hover
This book is about next door Nabors who end up dating. I read another book by this author this summer that I loved so much I decided to read another book by her. However this book was not as good. It was a bit slow with not that much action. Here is the link to the book: Maybe Someday
5. Clap When You Land- Elizabeth Acevedo
This book was a birthday gift from my book club. This book is about two sisters who are reunited after their father dies. The story is told from each of the sisters’ prospectuses. The story was a bit slow at times but super emotional. Here is the link to the book: Clap When You Land
4. Phantom of the Opera
For my birthday my friend combined two of my favorite things: books and Broadway. Phantom of The Opera is one of my favorite musicals and I was so excited to read the book that inspired it. The beginning was a bit slow, but it picked up around the middle. I would have never expected a book like this would be made into a hit musical. Here is the link Phantom of the Opera
3. It’s Kind of a Funny Story- Ned Vizzini
Ned Vizzini is one of my favorite authors. This book is about a kid named Cragg’s experience in a mental institution. It is based on Vizzini’s experience in a mental institution. Ned himself struggled with mental health his whole life. Unfortunately, it got to the point that he committed suicide. I found it supper interesting. There was also a movie based on the book. I did not like the movie as much as the book. Here is the link to the book: It’s Kind of a Funny Story
2. Teen Angst? Naaah… Ned Vizzini
This is a biography written about Vizzini’s life. It is the first book he ever published. I really liked getting to know my favorite author on a more personal level. I also found the book extremely funny. Here is the link Teen Angst? Naaaah…
1. It Ends With Us – Colleen Hover
This is a romance book about a girl named Lily who falls in love with a neurosurgeon. She then gets reconnected with her childhood boyfriend. It is a super cute romance with a lot of action. There were so many unexpected plot twists. I am reading the sequel right now. My only complaint is I did not like the ending. Here is the link to the book: It Ends With Us
