Review: Hadestown at Las Vegas Academy

I recently went to see the musical Hadestown at Las Vegas Academy, which is a performing arts high school, with some of my friends. Hadestown was the musical that was put on by the seniors. We all had an amazing time and were blown away by the talent on stage.

Synopsis of the show

Hadestown is a modern retelling of the Greek myth of Orpheus and Eurydice. There were folk and jazz-inspired twists. The story is completely sung through, meaning there’s no spoken dialogue — just music from beginning to end.

Theater

The theater where we saw Hadestown was the Black Box Theater at Las Vegas Academy. The seats were arranged in a circle around the theater, which creates a unique and intimate setting.  However, from some of the seats, you can only see the sides of the actors. I moved to a seat with a better view.

Choreography

The choreography for the show was outstanding- full of energy and creativity.  I was amazed at the high-energy choreography. It added to the show.

Music

I loved the music in the show. It was very catchy. The voices of the actors were also amazing. Since the musical was completely sung through, the songs were the highlight of the show. They helped to carry the story along. Since the entire show is sung, the music played a huge role in telling the story,  and it did so beautifully.

Overall Show

I loved the show. The actors were amazing, and the choreography was amazing. It reminded me of a professional show. I could not believe that it was done by high schoolers. I would not be surprised if some of them end up performing professionally someday.
