One of the hottest new eateries in San Diego is the Shake Shack that just opened in the Westfield UTC Mall, near the new Nordstrom, and this is my review. I heard it had long lines opening week and wanted to see for myself what all the hype was about. Shake Shack originated from New York, where it started off as a Hot Dog stand. This is its first location in San Diego.
I went with my dad, his girlfriend, and my grandparents. When we arrived around 4:30 p.m. on its third Sunday, already the line was about a half hour long. Thinking it would be be worth it I waited. When I finally got inside, the interior had a modern industrial feel to it, and when we got to the order counter the server was very helpful and nice.

The menu included a variety of hamburgers, salads, a chicken sandwich, chicken dog, fries and of course Shakes and Floats. Also, it had dog treats, but we left our dog at home!
This is what I ordered:
Cheeseburger
It was very flavorful and juicy, but also quite messy. Overall it was ok but I have to say, not worth the long wait.
French Fries
I was disappointed with the fries. They were bland, but also not as greasy as fries could be.
Pie Oh My
This is a dessert that is vanilla custard mixed with seasonal pie. Mine was a pumpkin Pie Oh My, for Fall. Vanilla with pumpkin made a good combination. You got pumpkin in every bite.
In conclusion we had a good time at this new restaurant. It has a nice informal industrial decor, good desserts, but they really have to speed up the line somehow, or in the long run it will not worth the wait. Overall, I rate the new Shake Shack UTC good for reasonably priced burgers and shakes, but overhyped.
