Top 5 Movie Musicals

Top 5 Movie Musicals

Hi everyone, today I  am going to be talking about my favorite movie musicals.  If you have been reading my blog for a while or know me personally you may know that I love musicals. I have loved musicals my whole life and my love is only growing. Because of this I have seen a lot of movie musicals. I thought I would share my top 5 to give some recommendations for your next movie night.

5. A Week Away

This is a musical about a troubled teen named Will who steals a cop car. The police gave him two options: going home to a nice family who was going to send him to a Christian summer camp with their son or going to prison. Will decides to go to the summer camp. The movie is about his time at the summer camp and the people he meets. I love all the dancing in this movie. The soundtrack is really good also. Overall, this is just a supper feel good movie. It kind of reminds me of the vibe of a Disney Chanel Original Movie.

4. West Side Story (2021)

This is a musical that is inspired by Romeo and Juliet. It is about a girl named Maria who is Cuban, and a boy named Tony who is part of a rival gang called the Jets. The Jets and the Cubans do not like each other. Maria and Tony fall in love and want to get married. However, no one approves of their relationship. It is about their relationship and how people around them disapprove.  I like this version way more than the original. I love the voices in this one and the acting. The original just seemed a bit outdated to me. I was a bit nervous seeing this one since I did not like the original. However, this movie was the modern adaptation West Side Story needed.

3.Newsies (2017)

This is a musical about a bunch of newsies working in New York. One day the person who owns the newspaper decides to raise the price of the newspapers for the newsies. The newsies decide to go on strike against injustice. I like the version of Newsies made in 2017 over the original because this one was filmed live on Broadway. It was so cool to see how they took the original movie and turned it into a Broadway production. The dancing in the movie was absolutely incredible and all the voices were amazing as well.

2. Rent

Rent is set in the 90s in New York City. It is about a group of friends who are struggling with careers, paying rent, love lives, and the effect of AIDS on their community. I love how all the characters develop through the show. I also love all the music and story development. Fun fact: a lot of the people who were in the original Broadway cast of Rent were also in the movie. You can tell how passionate everyone is about this project. I cannot recommend this move too much.

1. The Phantom of the Opera

This musical is about a girl named Christian who is the lead in an opera at the Paris Opera House. One night a man who lives in the Paris Opera House  named Phantom approaches Christine. The movie goes on to see their relationship progress. I love everything about this movie. It is just so magical. Also, the costumes were incredible. Finally, the soundtrack is amazing. This is just an all-around great movie.

In conclusion, I love all these movies. Everyone should see these movies at least once in their life.
