Christy went to Cafe Bassam in San Diego and got a beautiful looking chai latte, and this is my review. Cafe Bassam is a charming cafe filled with antiques, exuding an old world ambiance, while being on the ground floor of a modern residential high-rise building. So, the chai latte was pretty, but how did it taste?
“A perfect balance of spice and sweetness,” Christy said. The Chai Latte was topped with a swirl of nutmeg and other spices, and served with a side of baklava, as shown in the picture Christy shot. Also, the baklava crusted with crushed pistachios, made a fun side dish. Cafe Bassam is known for their craft coffees, but Christy also likes them for breakfast, and recommends trying their eggs special.

Ambiance and Location

Cafe Bassam started out as an antique shop in the Gaslamp Quarter of San Diego. Their owners, the Shamma family, describe the cafe as providing craft coffee with a European vibe. Its central location in San Diego, near Balboa Park, is in Park West, just south of Hillcrest at the corner of 5th Avenue and Redwood St.:
